Relationships are God’s gift to us. God had a clear purpose in mind for giving us the gift of relationships. This purpose can be traced back to the very beginning when He Himself initiated the first relationship ever. He looked at Adam & said it wasn’t good for him to be alone, that He(God) would make him a help suitable for him.(Gen. 2:18).
In order to maximally enjoy & benefit from the gift of relationships, we must understand God’s purpose for our relationships so we can let this guide our choice & management of these relationships. If we go deeper into the word of God, we will see several warnings about the potential impact of wrong relationships. In 1 Cor. 15:33, we were warned to not be deceived because evil communication will always corrupt good manners.
It is also important to note that just as God wants to use our relationships to serve His original purpose in our lives, Satan His arch enemy is also interested in using our relationships for his counterfeit or evil purposes. So it’s crucial that we remain fully aware & in charge of our relationships to make sure they are serving God’s & not the enemy’s purpose in our lives.
The point is this, any relationship (be it with family, friends, business partner, neighbor, coworker or anyone) that we can’t confidently say is serving God’s purpose in our lives is most likely serving the enemy’s. (Matt. 12:30). By God’s original design, our relationships should add to us, help us, support us, empower us & equip us to better fulfill our destiny & be all we were meant to be. Any relationships that isn’t doing all the above should be handled wisely from a distance so to not be negatively impacted by them. Half a word, they say, is enough for the wise.
